Maeve
literally means "intoxicating one". Maeve is also the name of many fine Irish women, amongst whom was Queen Maeve (or "Mebd") of Connaught. Currently,
Maeve is a group of four women based in Montreal who have come together to perform traditional celtic, principally Irish, music. Their versatile arrangements reflect
the diverse influences of the individual members, including Quebecois, Galician, Balkan, Medieval and Baroque music. Performances include: the Christmas reception of the St. Patrick's
Society of Montreal; being featured as the guest performers with the Cantare choir for their annual Christmas concert; New Year's
Eve 1999 at the Lion d'Or ; the annual St. Patrick's Day dinner for the Burlington Irish Heritage
Festival; being selected as a "Discovery 2000" for the Festival Musique Multi-Montréal, including
being showcased in "La Nuit des Celtes" at Kola Note; the gala opening of the Montreal Irish
Theatre Festival; Concordia University's Irish Studies reception and performances at the Oscar
Peterson Hall (formerly the Concert Hall); the Ville Marie Feis; the first Montreal Celtic Festival; Canada Day celebrations in Beaconsfield; the Shawinigan summer festival; the
Sunday Brunch Series at CAMMAC's Lake MacDonald Music Centre; and numerous private parties and Irish pubs.
